J.C., 19, a student in Palo Alto, CA

Now that I have decided to stay on campus, I have been pretty much confined in my room. I spend most of my time studying, watching Netflix, and sleeping. For some reason, this had been an especially peaceful time for me. There are no more “disruptions” in my daily lives, and I get to really focus on my work and relationships. It is weird being able to stay in the dorm during a global pandemic. Life feels surprisingly normal.

The main thing that worries me is when the quarter ends. I still haven’t heard from the university about whether I can stay on campus for the summer, and because of the airline restrictions, I can barely find an air ticket that will get me home. Even if I get one, I am worried about contracting the virus on my way home.
